Marlowe(Paul Bogart) 1969 *** 12/25/2015

A Technicolor romp around 60s Hippie LA, with meaty faced, hard-nosed Marlowe(James Garner) navigating ice pick killings and the blackmail of a big time actress(Carrol O’Connor).  Bruce Lee plays the alliteratively anointed Winslow Wong, whose high flying kicking antics send him over the edge in a wonderfully contrived death scene straight out of the penny arcade.
Lightly comic, with an amicable seriousness when required, Marlowe manages to do what he always does: laugh at a black joke of a world with a grizzled warrior’s sensitivity and a virtuous cad’s charm.
