L’Armée des ombres(Jean-Pierre Melvilee) 1969 **** 1/19/2016

A tale of Resistance, First Killings, and occupation brutality.  Lhomme has a reputation for low-lighting mastery, and the steel blue light of night, the monochrome grimness of this beautifully shot rebel war attests to that.  The film is tense and poignant, and the ever-present inevitability of death imbues the picture with a Gallic fatalism, through its Gaullish resistance.
